What superintelligence would actually do in Africa

Africa holds 0.6% of the world's data centre capacity and about a fifth of its people. A 2025 study found no dedicated AI safety institute on the continent and no local AI safety work in 30 African countries. In Mali, a Claude subscriber built a SIM-monitoring platform on government machines, and banning his account did not switch it off.

Why it matters: The outcome for Africa will be decided downstream by who owns the infrastructure, who restores it first, who detects failures and who captures the gains.
