Yangtze ports test the water with longer container shipping routes

Jiangyin and Nanjing are the latest Yangtze River ports to demonstrate ocean-going ambitions. Cosco Shipping Specialised Carriers launched a container service from Jiangyin to Manzanillo, Mexico, carrying more than 500 containers of machinery and finished goods on the CSPC Jade. Cosco also started a container service from Nanjing to North Africa.

Why it matters: This extends inland Chinese ports directly into global supply chains, reshaping trade routes and port competition.

chokepoint infrastructure · great power rivalry
