UK Hits Eight Russian Ships in New Sanctions Package
The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on eight ships as part of a broader package targeting Russian energy revenues, maritime logistics and individuals accused of supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine. The 31 new measures include 23 individuals and entities and eight vessels subject to UK shipping and trade sanctions. The maritime portion covers three vessels described as part of Russia’s shadow fleet, two ships providing bunkering services and three Russian-owned ice-class vessels, of which five are LNG carriers.
Why it matters: The designations extend sanctions and export controls into maritime logistics and Arctic LNG shipping, the channels through which Russian energy revenues reach buyers.
