U.K. Expands Sanctions to Cover 90% of Russian Oil Output, Shadow Fleet and Finance Networks
Britain announced sanctions targeting 38 Russian energy companies, shadow fleet oil tankers and financial networks. It added 17 entities and individuals supplying high-priority goods, including importers of machine tools and electronics, and sanctioned two Russian energy producers, saying the restrictions now cover more than 90% of Russia's total oil production capacity. An additional 12 tankers were designated, expanding the total number of targeted shadow fleet vessels to more than 600, and five financial entities were designated, including one registered in Canada and three in Kyrgyzstan.
Why it matters: The designations extend the sanctions coalition's reach into Russian oil revenue, shadow fleet logistics and payment channels used to circumvent Western measures.
