How Angola’s plans to fund its post-fossil future are falling into place
Angola's first issue of sustainable bonds was admitted to trading on the BODIVA stock exchange, raising Kz57.5bn ($62.7m) against an initial target of Kz50bn. The country has joined the Africa Business Leaders Coalition on Climate Action, signed an MoU with the United Nations Development Programme and supported the development of a green finance framework. Its National Development Plan 2023-2027 and the Angola 2050 strategy recognise the need to diversify the economy, modernise infrastructure and develop human capital.
Why it matters: The bond issue and the accompanying framework indicate that green finance in Angola now turns on building a pipeline of bankable projects rather than on further policy declarations.
