Ethiopia: Eritrean troops deploy in northern Tigray

Observers report that Eritrean soldiers are deploying in several localities in Tigray, including Rama and Sheraro near the Eritrean border and Fatsi near Adigrat. Eritrea's information minister, Yemane Gebremeskel, rejected what he called a false self-defence narrative by the Ethiopian government. Ethiopia accuses Asmara of supporting the TPLF, and the two countries broke off diplomatic relations the previous week.

Why it matters: The Eritrean deployment turns Ethiopia's internal conflict into a cross-border one, the kind of regional escalation the briefing tracks under conflict and security.
