Côte d'Ivoire: gold deposit found near Boundiali in the north
An Australian company, Aurum Resources, which holds the exploration permit, has identified a gold deposit near Boundiali in northern Côte d'Ivoire, more than 700 kilometres from Abidjan, with resources estimated at 115 tonnes. Mine construction is to begin by the end of the year, subject to raising the 503 million dollars needed for the project, with production estimated at six tonnes a year from the first half of 2028. National gold output rose from twelve tonnes in 2011 to 59.4 tonnes in 2025.
Why it matters: The deposit bears on the commodities theme, as Côte d'Ivoire seeks to turn mineral discoveries into investment and export revenue.
