India, Uzbekistan upgrade ties to comprehensive strategic partnership; set $5 billion trade target
India and Uzbekistan elevated their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and set a target of $5 billion in annual trade by 2030. The leaders agreed to establish a framework for long-term uranium supply from Uzbekistan to India, and to promote co-development and co-production of military hardware. They also agreed to create a Coordination Council at the foreign ministers' level and elevate their joint commission to ministerial level.
Why it matters: This development underscores the theme of strategic partnerships in Central Asia, reflecting India's expanding engagement in the region.
