Volta doubles Springer rare earths, eyes 2027 study

Volta Metals reported an updated indicated rare earth resource at its Springer project in Ontario of 122.4 million tonnes grading 0.59% total rare earth oxides, a 116% increase in indicated tonnage. The estimate also classifies 197.5 million tonnes at 0.53% TREO as inferred and includes a first gallium assessment of 4,427 tonnes of in-situ gallium within the indicated resource. The company is targeting a preliminary economic assessment in the first half of 2027.

Why it matters: The update bears on critical minerals supply chains, as Western governments seek to reduce dependence on China in rare earth processing and gallium production.
