US sanctions net widens to shipping agents and lawyers
Washington widened sanctions on Iran’s shadow fleet to include a Greek-Panamanian law firm, shipping agents in Singapore and Dubai, and nine vessels. The US Treasury said Karnakis and Karnakis had established corporate structures for shipowners moving Iranian oil, LPG, petrochemicals and steel, and five individuals linked to the practice were designated. Among the companies blacklisted were Roxette Maritime Shipping and Trading, Amigoz Singapore and Whales Shipping Line; Treasury cited Amigoz’s role as port agent and bunkering services and Whales’ support for Amigoz.
Why it matters: The action shows sanctions enforcement extending from ships and owners to lawyers, agents and financiers.
