Bannerman pulls trigger on $353M uranium mine
Bannerman Energy and CNNC Overseas approved construction of the Etango uranium project in Namibia, with funding secured without project debt and first production targeted for 2028. The development is expected to cost $353 million before production and deliver an average of 3.5 million lb. of uranium oxide annually, with about $64 million already spent on early works. Under the financing arrangement, CNNC invested $320.4 million and will buy 60% of Etango’s lifetime production on market-based terms; Bannerman owns 55% of the joint venture and CNNC Overseas 45%.
Why it matters: The approval bears on energy security, as a Chinese state-linked partner secures rights to 60% of Etango’s lifetime uranium output.
