Taiwan plans to build rare earths plant

The Industrial Technology Research Institute plans a rare-earth demonstration plant intended to produce 500 tonnes annually and meet half of Taiwan’s needs by the end of 2030. Construction is targeted for completion by the end of 2028, with process refinement to follow, and the plant would be built in an industrial park for eventual transfer to a private company. ITRI already operates an experimental line producing about 5 tonnes a year, and funding and commercial arrangements remain under discussion.

Why it matters: The plan reflects the briefing’s supply chains theme, with Taiwan seeking domestic rare-earth capacity amid Chinese export controls.
