Indonesia cuts gas to Singapore amid Borneo, Sumatra wildfire haze
Indonesia cut natural gas exports to Singapore on Saturday to prioritise domestic demand, according to Djoko Siswanto, head of the state oil and gas agency SKK Migas. Siswanto said the cuts totalled 31 million standard cubic feet per day, with 15 million from Natuna in Indonesia's Riau islands and 16 million from Sumatra, to maintain domestic gas supply for electricity. President Prabowo Subianto had berated 'countries that like to insult' Indonesia over the haze crisis without naming specific countries, as the two countries were at loggerheads over regional air pollution from wildfires.
Why it matters: The decision links energy security to a transboundary haze dispute, showing how environmental conflict can affect gas supply arrangements.
