CENTCOM reveals tally of oil tanker transits through Strait of Hormuz
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, said on Saturday that the command supported the transit of more than one billion barrels of crude oil from Gulf states through the Strait of Hormuz over the past two months. He added that more than 2,000 commercial ships had been secured passage, that the main transit lanes were clear of mines, and that Iran had not exported a single barrel because of the blockade. Volumes of crude, goods and liquefied natural gas in the past two weeks were higher than at any time in the previous six months.
Why it matters: This matters for the briefing's theme of maritime security, as control of the Strait of Hormuz directly affects global energy flows.
