Ethiopia: federal army intensifies counter-offensive in the north, public television hit by drone
Nearly a week after the resumption of conflict in northern Ethiopia, the federal army is conducting a counter-offensive on several fronts. In Tigray, a drone struck the building of Tigrai TV in Mekelle on Sunday 27 September, with no injuries reported so far according to a journalist of the channel. Clashes between federal troops and Tigrayan forces were also reported in the Alamata area in southern Tigray, about 400 kilometres north of Addis Ababa, where military sources say the army now controls the localities of Kobo and Waja.
Why it matters: The renewed fighting and the strike on a regional broadcaster bear directly on the briefing's theme of armed conflict and its escalation in the Horn of Africa.
