Go Ahead Given for Canada LNG to Double Capacity

LNG Canada and its investment partners have decided to proceed with Phase 2 of the Kitimat, British Columbia export operation, about 15 months after exports began. The expansion will add two LNG trains, increasing total production capacity from 14 to 28 million tonnes per annum, and includes an additional storage tank, condensate tank, loading berth, and expanded utility and process systems. Fluor Corporation, in a joint venture with JGC Corporation, has been selected to deliver engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning for the project.

Why it matters: The expansion bears on energy security, as it adds LNG supply aimed at the growing Asian market amid projected increases in global demand.
