Trump: no one knows who is running Iran

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his biggest problem in dealing with Iran is that no one knows who is running the country, adding that the second group of Iranian leaders has departed. He said Iran is in a very bad situation and that its economy is collapsing after inflation exceeded three hundred percent, and said oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, expecting oil prices to fall once the war with Iran ends. He commented on the resignation of Iranian oil minister Mohsen Paknejad, and the remarks came a day after he said he was open to direct negotiations with Tehran, while the US Treasury warned foreign financial institutions on Monday that they could face sanctions without prior notice if they deal with Iran or its financial sector.

Why it matters: The statements bear on the briefing's energy markets theme, since they tie the US–Iran confrontation to Strait of Hormuz oil flows, crude prices and shipping in the region.
