Addis Ababa to host 36th African Hydro Symposium in November 2026

The 36th African Hydro Symposium (AHS2026) will be held in Addis Ababa from 3–6 November 2026. The event is expected to produce the launch of the African Energy Security Policy Framework, led by the AUC, ECA, AUDA-NEPAD and AFREC, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the African Union, acting through AFREC, and KGRTC. The symposium, established in 1989 and described as Africa's longest-running professional hydropower platform, will focus on six key areas under the theme "Climate-Resilient Hydropower and Water–Energy Security in Africa."

Why it matters: The planned launch of the African Energy Security Policy Framework and the AU–KGRTC MOU place energy security and capacity development at the centre of the briefing's themes.
