Critical minerals: after Botswana, Canada's Tsodilo sets course for DRC and Namibia
The Canadian junior miner Tsodilo Resources announced on Wednesday 14 October the creation of two new subsidiaries, Tsodilo DRC SARLU in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia Mineral Resources (Pty) Limited in Namibia, adding to its existing presence in Botswana, where it has been exploring the Gcwihaba rare earths project. The company states that it has so far acquired no project or licence in either country and that negotiations to that end are under way. In the DRC it is looking at the Haut-Lomami and Tshopo provinces for lithium, tantalum, niobium and copper, and in Namibia at the Kunene region for copper and polymetallic mineralisation.
Why it matters: The move illustrates how junior miners are repositioning across African jurisdictions to secure access to critical minerals as global supply concerns intensify.
