Taiwan Plans to Invest $4.4B in Alaska LNG, Subject to Negotiations
Taiwan's government confirmed it plans to buy six million tonnes per annum of LNG from the Alaska LNG megaproject and intends to invest $4.4 billion in the system's construction, subject to further negotiations. President Donald Trump said Taiwan had agreed to an offtake commitment equal to 30 percent of the plant's output. Taiwan's energy ministry said specific investment arrangements, shareholding ratios and related conditions would be handled through subsequent negotiations and commercial contract procedures.
Why it matters: The proposed investment illustrates how energy security concerns are shaping investment commitments between the United States and its Asian allies.
