Trump: Iran war 'simple matter', we achieved great success
US President Donald Trump downplayed the military confrontation with Iran, calling it a 'simple matter' for the United States. He said the US is conducting 'intermittent strikes' but is not currently fighting, and compared the conflict favorably to the Vietnam and Afghanistan wars. Trump reiterated that US operations prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Why it matters: This bears on the theme of US-Iran military escalation and its domestic political context ahead of the midterm elections.
